🚯Pay it forward, for real According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. residents dispose of close to 300 million tons of municipal solid waste each year, and most of that waste can be found in oceans and landfills and contributing to climate change.
In the 1970s (that’s 50 years ago!) municipalities began adopting waste initiatives to reduce municipal solid waste. The Pay-As-You-Throw, also called SMART (Save Money and Reduce Trash) waste policy requires residents to pay directly for waste disposal services. Municipalities create a financial incentive to reduce waste through reuse or donations, waste reduction, recycling, and composting.
Case in point, in 2020 Massachusetts showed that communities running the Pay-As-You-Throw program reduced household solid waste by 30%, compared with communities without the program. More than 7,000 municipalities across California, Maine, New York, Michigan, Washington, and Massachusetts have successfully implemented the Pay-As-You-Throw policy presently. We can all be "SMARTer"

🤝Teach one, reach one The November 22 issue of AGREEN1 noted how Crypto.com impacted Los Angeles. Now Crypto.com and the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF) will provide students and families connected to the I PROMISE program with tools and educational resources needed to participate and succeed in building the next generation internet, Web3.
Crypto.com is the world's fastest-growing cryptocurrency platform, and the need for employees is increasing. The duo wants to help educate potential employees, potential crypto moguls and potential creators alike. This brand new industry is going to be the new reality much sooner than later.
😕WTH is going on with Meta? Tusk Ventures CEO Bradley Tusk has drawn the world's attention to a critical matter concerning the Metaverse. According to industry experts, the Metaverse will influence the world, including governments and institutions, which could affect the world negatively.
Because the Metaverse is still in its embryonic stage many are urging policymakers to develop an intellectual framework for regulating the emerging technology before it gets too late. Bradley recommended finding answers for many questions surrounding the Metaverse, such as: Who runs it? Who maintains it? How should privacy rights work? How do you prevent consumer fraud and protect against online predators? Bradley suggests policymakers create a group comprising agency professionals, technology experts, scientists, legal scholars, social psychologists, state regulators, and government officials to find answers to the questions he raised. Sounds logical, right?

✈️Boom Supersonic for $500 million Last year we shared the news that Boom Supersonic plans to build the world's fastest and most sustainable supersonic airline, called Boom Overture in 2022. See AGREEN1 May 10, 2021 issue for more exciting news. Remember, the aircraft will be twice as fast as any other commercial airplane and will be net-zero for carbon emissions, and cost $100/ticket. That's totally radical! Now the site to develop and test the Overture has been selected.
The 65-acre campus with a 400,000 square foot, full-scale manufacturing facility will reside at the Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina. It should boost the economy of North Carolina by $32.3 billion within the next 20 years. It aims to create up to 1,750 jobs in the state by 2030 and more than 2,400 jobs by 2032. Employees will earn an average annual wage of $69,000.
Boom projects it needs 200 internships through 2032 in order to develop the next generation of supersonic professionals. It is eyeing students from publicly funded North Carolina universities, community colleges, and technical schools. Boom will break ground on building the Overture factory in late 2022, with the goal to test the first Overture in 2026. Boom expects the Overture to carry its first passengers by 2029.
