💥A M T R A K Since Amtrak started operating across the U.S. 51 years ago, the national railroad passenger corporation has played a significant role in the nation's climate crisis. Serving over 80,000 passengers across more than 42 U.S. states and 9 cities in Canada daily, Amtrak has decided to address its climate impact.
The company is investing billions into a project to build new low-emission passenger trains, including battery-electric ones, which it plans to roll out starting in 2026. The new trains are called Airo. In addition to addressing Amtrak's climate impact, the new trains will have enhanced speed rates, improved interiors, and modernized amenities like free Wi-Fi to elevate the passenger experience. Amtrak also wants the trains to be American-made, and it is collaborating with California-based manufacturer Siemens Mobility for their production.

👙Synthetic-free swimwear The vast majority of swimsuits are synthetic because synthetic fabrics have performance qualities necessary for stretch, durability, resistance to chlorine, saltwater, and sunlight. But the materials come at a cost to the environment, requiring massive amounts of energy and petroleum for their production while creating non-biodegradable waste along the way. Around 2015 when Mara Hoffman started making a sustainable ready-to-wear clothing line, the New York-based womenswear brand also started looking for a way to do the same for its swimwear.
Now seven years later, the brand has done it. Mara Hoffman's Spring/Summer 2023 collection features three different swimsuits made from a bio-based fabric. The material is called Pyratex Power 3, and it was developed in collaboration with Spanish material design company Pyratex. Together they provide the most sustainable swimwear fabric available, containing just 11% elastane. The companies intend to continue their research for a fully sustainable solution while leading the sector away from dependence on synthetic materials.

🔌Tesla empowers customers Elon Musk's renewable energy utility plans in Texas are gradually coming to fruition. Tesla Energy Ventures has already been offering retail electric services in select areas in the Lone Star State. Tesla customers can use the Powerwall battery storage system to save and collect excess energy generated from the sun.
The launch of Tesla Electric, a utility plan that would enable select Powerwall owners to sell their excess power to the grid, with Tesla acting as the intermediate agent. According to Tesla, the Powerwall will autonomously select when to charge and when to sell energy, enabling customers to earn credits toward their utility bills. The company might eventually expand the new service to other regions where it operates too.
📫USPS going green in 2023 The United States Postal Service’s carbon footprint has been one of the highest in the nation by a government department. This is because it operates over 220,000 high-emission delivery vehicles delivering mail and packages to over 163 million addresses every day. The newest vehicle purchase by the department requires that at least 40% of those new vehicles to be EVs. VOXX and Oshkosk, with NYSE tickers VOXX and OSH respectively were awarded a 10 year contract.
Recently it announced that at least 66,000 of the over 100,000 delivery vehicles it plans to acquire through 2028 would be EVs. The USPS said it would invest as much as $9.6 billion to purchase the EVs, including $3 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act funds. The department states that some of the new vehicles will be on the roads by late 2023. USPS has also been exploring the feasibility of going 100% electric.
