💸Google to pay $391 million for tracking violations Is settling a lawsuit an indirect admission of guilt? Last month, Google had to pay $85 million in a lawsuit settlement with the Arizona Attorney General over an allegation that it deceptively tracked the location of Android users in Arizona for many years. Tap into the AGREEN1 October 17 issue for more details.
Now Google will pay $391 million to settle an investigation with another 40 State Attorneys General based on the same allegation. The settlement also requires Google to make its location tracking disclosures clearer, which the tech company said it has already done. The tech company still faces lawsuits in Washington DC, Texas, Indiana, and Washington State. See the AGREEN1 February 24 issue for Google's other deceptive tracking activities. Other search engines are: DuckDuckGo, Bing, You.com, yahoo, swissCows and many more.
👍E85 gas is much cheaper than regular gas E85 gas is the most prominent "flex-fuel" consisting of 85 percent ethanol and a small percentage of gasoline. Because ethanol is plant-based, it produces insignificant amounts of greenhouse gases compared to regular gasoline.
E85 gas is already being used in different parts of the world as an offset against fossil fuel products particularly in the U.S., Brazil, and Australia. In the U.S. E85 is made from corn and is subsidized by the government, making it 25%-35% cheaper at the pump too. Other known types of flex-fuel are E100, E15, and E10. You might what to explore your options.

🔬Skin is the biggest organ The invention of wearable health & fitness electronics has significantly improved healthcare. Think about it, Smartwatches enable people to monitor their heart rhythms, check their cholesterol and sugar levels, and even keep track of their fitness. These incredible tech devices are just getting started with what they can do in the future.
A research group from the U.S. Department of Energy and the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) is developing a new skin-like wearable device to detect health conditions before obvious symptoms appear. The device will also be able to analyze health data without human intervention. The AI technology used is called "neuromorphic computing". The research is titled: "Intrinsically Stretchable Neuromorphic Devices for On-Body Processing of Health Data with Artificial Intelligence". Now that could use an acronym! Is this something you look forward to?
😨TikTok and the FBI TikTok is a popular social media platform owned by the Chinese internet tech company, ByteDance. It became popular in the U.S. less than five years ago, around 2018. China's controlling power over Chinese companies has made several U.S. officials begin to worry about the safety of U.S. users on the platform. ByteDance must allow the Chinese government access to its internal information at any given time, including users' data. "That law alone gives enough reason to be concerned," FBI Director Christopher Wray told a Committee of lawmakers during a hearing about worldwide threats held last week.
ByteDance has said that it does not store U.S. data in China; however, a report published last month by Forbes revealed that the tech company tried using TikTok to monitor the physical location of specific Americans. The U.S. is trying to reach an agreement with ByteDance to ensure TikTok's U.S. users have full protection. Without those assurances, TikTok could be banned in the U.S., just like YouTube and Instagram are banned in China. Please use social media with caution.

🔋Battery options Renewable grid storage batteries must be cost-effective and durable, or they won’t be beneficial. Lithium-ion batteries are the most widely used and they last about ten years. Given that, industry experts have been trying to produce better alternatives. One startup has done it.
Ambri recently commissioned its first molten-salt battery storage system for Microsoft, made from calcium and antimony. The company’s battery cells are not only cheaper than the lithium-ion ones; they are also cleaner and have more than twice the lifespan of lithium. Ambri is now working towards full commercialization of its technology. The company’s innovation hub in Massachusetts will allow for a production capacity of 200,000 battery cells per year starting in 2023.
