☕21st Century COFFEE Concern for balance is hitting the coffee cup. All agriculture is dependent on the climate. With global warming having a harsh impact on growing coffee, at the same time, people all over the globe are falling more in love with it and increasing demand. Coffee is the second largest traded commodity on Earth. It's delicious and to meet the demand requires more deforestation, which increases global warming. It also requires a lot of water to grow.
There’s a new brew in town, called Minus Coffee. The California-based startup is the brain-child of CEO, Maricel Saenz. She was born in Costa Rica and learned to first hand about the vulnerability of this important commodity. The current model is unsustainable, and the need for a “beanless coffee” is right now. Their website says they “roast and grind upcycled pits, roots and seeds…then ferment and brew this better-for-earth blend just like real coffee with the perfect bite of caffeine." If you're obsessed with coffee and the planet, this might be your favorite beverage!
🥩New meat grown in a lab The US Dept of Agriculture (USDA) gave approval for two lab-grown meat companies to start scaling. Both companies are California-based and they can now produce and sell products for commercial use in the US. This should help those so inclined to help the environment have another option. Livestock accounts for 14.5% of all global greenhouse gas emissions, according to UC Davis.
Upside Foods is a "cultured meat" company that was covered in AGREEN1 in the November 21, 2022 issue. It was Berkeley was founded in 2015, in Berkeley, California. They cultivate lab grown poultry, meat and seafood products. Chef Dominique Crenn is the first US female chef to receive a two and then a 3-star Michelin rating. Her venue, Bar Crenn in San Francisco serves Upside Foods products.
GOOD Meat is the cultivated meat arm of Just Eat Inc, a pioneer in the lab-grown eggs, poultry and seafood industries. GOOD Meat also received USDA approval last month. See AGREEN1 April 3 issue for more details.

🍄Fungus provides answers We know them as mushrooms, fungi and mycelium. Fun fact, they are in undergoing research and development to replace many environmentally damaging products such as: plastics, leathers, insulation, foams, cattle for meat. Each product is 100% compostable, and at super speeds.
New York-based, Ecovative Design, LLC has been at this since 2007. Called the biomaterials industry, Ecovative has blazed trails and has a client list from HP to IKEA to Dell. Sounds like this mycelium resource still has room to mushroom and grow, right?

🏄🏽♀️Electric hydrofoil The intersection of science and clean fun truly defines the efoilexperience. Hydrofoils are likened to flying on water, and that experience is much better with a rechargeable electric propeller. And quieter too!
Summer is the time to give it a try! A wireless remote control syncs to the efoil via Bluetooth connection. If this isn't 21st Century personal, watercraft fun, we don't know what is! Already being called the "future of water sports" there are scheduled events already taking place.
🍁Las Vegas, aka Sin City Did you know that adult-use cannabis consumption has been legal in Nevada since July 2017? Many people still do not; hopefully many more will this Fall. Nevada's Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB) finally awarded 3 provisional consumption lounge licenses.
The lucky recipients were Planet 13, Thrive Cannabis Marketplace and SoL Cannabis. That makes a total of four. NuWu Cannabis Marketplace was the first in 2021.
Stay Curious... Who are we?
Fun question of the day:
Do you take a planned vacation or staycation every summer?
Who are we?
Do you feel like the EV transition is long over due?
100% of respondents said YES
Thanks again for being you. Until the next issue, be sure to add more green to your life!
