📦Order cannabis delivery with Uber Eats Uber’s food delivery platform Uber Eats and Leafly, a leading cannabis eCommerce website and information resource, reached an agreement on October 16 to start offering a home delivery service to cannabis consumers in Canada’s largest city, Toronto. The delivery service kicked off the next day with the hope that it would help combat the illegal market, which still accounts for over 50% of adult-use cannabis sales in Toronto.
The delivery service is available to Torontonians who are over 19 years old. They can use the Uber Eats app to place orders with Hidden Leaf Cannabis, Minerva Cannabis, or Shivaa’s Rose, currently the only three cannabis retailers in the partnership.
👍5 minute EV charging Instances of an invention or innovation serving an entirely different purpose besides its original one are not uncommon. NASA developed a new technology to aid future space missions, and it has solved one of the biggest challenges in the EV industry: the ability to charge EVs within 5 minutes. Currently, the fastest "superchargers" available take 15-20 minutes using 520 amperes.
Charging an EV fully in 5 minutes requires charging cables to deliver electric current at 1,400 amperes. However, NASA’s advanced temperature control technique, dubbed subcooled flow boiling, enabled the delivery of current at 2,400 amperes, over-achieving by a long shot... Great job, NASA!

🇯🇵Sony Honda Mobility Inc In the middle of the year, electronics giant Sony and carmaker Honda announced their partnership to form an EV company to produce high-end EVs with advanced technology. The official joint venture is called Sony Honda Mobility Inc. and launched it last week. The new EV company will deliver their first EVs by 2026 in the U.S. and Japan. Eventually, they may bring their EVs to Europe too.
The chairman, Yasuhide Mizuno, said that the company will begin acceptinh preorders in 2025, all online.
📈Neobanks on the rise Banking used to be something done in the real world. People would go to their banks to withdraw money, transfer funds, and sort out their finances. But technology has now enabled us to access our accounts on phones and computers and even transfer, deposit, or withdraw money without walking into a bank building.
Now a new crop of financial technology (fintech) firms is on the rise, and rewriting the narrative for millions of users. Referred to as Neobanks in the U.S. and "challenger banks" in the U.K., these fintech banks have no physical presence, offering digital-only and hassle-free banking with low- or no-fee service. The most popular Neobank in the U.S. is Chime, which has over 12 million customers. In the U.K., Revolut is the leader. Altogether, there are around 256 Neobanks worldwide.
💎Reusing jewels Chelsey Bartrum is a Los Angeles-base jeweler who has been making jewelry using sustainable practices for years. Starling, her first jewelry venture, launched in 2015 to make jewelry with post-consumer recycled materials.
Bartrum also wanted to restore the family tradition of passing down jewels, which has declined over the years. Her new sustainable venture, Heirloom Revival, helps people turn their old jewelry into new favorites. Bartrum opened Heirloom Revival in September, a short distance from Starling in Los Angeles. She believes circularity to be the future of the jewelry industry. “It’s our responsibility as citizens of Earth to do this. Our mission is: buy less, make more.”
