🏆Another first! In the middle of the year, Major League Baseball (MLB), agreed to allow players to use hemp-derived CBD products for recovery and overall wellness. It also announced an interest in officially partnering with CBD companies Certified for Sport ® by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Last week, the MLB entered a multi-year partnership with a CBD company the first-ever deal by any major professional sports league and a CBD company.
Denver-based Charlotte's Web (CW) is now the official sponsor of MLB. As a market leader in hemp-derived CBD products, to highlight the event, CW launched the company’s first-ever hemp-derived product to be NSF Certified for Sports ® called Daily Edge. It is a marriage that pro athletes have wanted for many years.

👍Another first!! California disposes of 42.2 million tons of plastic waste annually, and most of it ends up in landfills. SB 1046 was signed into law by Governor Gavin Newsom on Sept. 30, making California the first state in the nation to outlaw plastic produce bags; back in 2016 the state banned single-use checkout bags from supermarkets, pharmacies and convenience stores.
“Precheckout bags” as the bill refers to them, not only applies to bags typically seen near fresh fruit and vegetables, but also includes bags used for unwrapped food items such as meat, fish, nuts, grains, candy, and bakery goods. Stores must replace the bags with either paper bags or compostable bags, according to the bill. The ban will take effect starting January 1, 2025.

🍏Laws for New York's cannabis patients to grow their own A commendable step was taken by New York State cannabis regulators recently. They approved to let registered patients in N.Y.'s medical cannabis access program to home-grow the plant. There are almost 125,000 registered patients in the program, and according to the rules, they can grow up to six cannabis plants (only three can be mature) and up to five pounds of cannabis from their harvest. Caregivers with multiple patients can also grow up to twelve marijuana plants, with only six allowed to be mature at a time.
The new rules, which took the N.Y. Cannabis Control Board (CCB) nearly one year finalize, became effective on October 5. The CCB also approved ten more adult-use processor licenses that same day, bringing the total approved processor licenses to 25.
😎Google will pay $85M to Arizona Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich’s lawsuit against Google over privacy violation and consumer fraud, since May 2020, has ended in a settlement agreement with the technology giant. According to the case filed in Maricopa County two years ago, Google was using deceptive means to track the location of Android users. That information was then sold to Google advertisers, in violation Arizona's Consumer Fraud Act. Investigation into the technology company’s dark pattern practices began after Associated Press reported about it in 2018.
Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. agreed to pay $85 million to settle the case last week. It’s the largest settlement ever by the technology company per capita in a consumer fraud lawsuit. A.G. Brnovich’s statement noted that he is proud of it because it proves no entity, including a big tech company, is above the law.
❓What's a Climatarian? The growing climate crisis has made many people rethink their impact on the planet and adopt environmentally sustainable lifestyles like cutting down their animal consumption and going more plant-based. About 55% of people globally have gone plant-based either as a vegetarian, vegan, or flexitarian (someone who eats mainly plant products but also occasionally eats animal products).
There is also another group of people called pescatarians. They do not eat meat but will eat fish. If you identify with any of these groups because you care about how the foods you consume impact the environment, you are a climatarian. The term, appealing to climate and nature enthusiasts, first appeared in The New York Times in 2015.
