☀️Life without the internet? Once upon a time, there was life without the internet. What came before the internet was called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), and it was funded by the U.S. Defense Department. On October 29, 1969 the first computers were connected. Soon, when networks of computers connected to each other, we had "internetworking", which was shortened to "the internet".
By 1975, the growth was so robust and control of it went to the Defense Communications Agency. Two tech giants were then born; Microsoft was founded in 1975 on April 4, and Apple was founded April 1, 1976. The National Science Foundation financed the Computer Science Network in many universities in 1981.
When ARPANET was "decommissioned" in 1990, commercialization of the internet was guaranteed. In the same year, Microsoft was used by the U.S. Government in an antitrust lawsuit. Recall that Google is currently on trial for an antitrust lawsuit brought on by the DOJ. The tech titan will begin their defense on Thursday, October 26. Now that we have the history, can we speak up and have more control over our desires and roles of this time-consuming and attention-controlling technology? We deserve nothing less. #SeatAtTheTable
👨⚖️Go Goleta, CA In the lovely city of Goleta, just north of Santa Barbara, California, the city has partnered with PoweredUp Network to start offering residents more power of their energy. The system consists of solar panels and batteries to collect and store the power for consumption in the home.
Only home owners can apply for this program. There are no upfront costs and the service agreement is for 25 years. The rates are half of what is paid through a utility company and all the equipment is provided by PoweredUp Network. Goleta's goal is to be 100% renewable energy city by 2030. The service is available in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Call 805-769-3733 for more info.

🏭Rivian EV Trucks Have you seen more of them lately on the roads? We certainly have. There over 50,000 Rivian R1T pick-up trucks and R1S SUV models sold and the feedback is terrific.
The California-based EV company will start constructing phase one of their new factory in Georgia in 2024. Rivian plans to build 200,000 EVs from the Georgia factory in phase 1. Phase 2 will be completed in 2030 and will build another 200,000 EVs per year. There will also be factories in Texas and Colorado. The next models will be R2T and R2S and will have lower prices than the R1 models.
🥥Bitcoin leans into next halving Around April 2024, Bitcoin will experience the next "halving event." It's a four-year occurrence that started in 2012. It actually slows down the bitcoin mining process, by halving the reward bitcoin miners are given. In 2016, miners earned 12.5 bitcoins, and in 2020 it was reduced to 6.25 coins.
The maximum number of bitcoins that can be mined is 21 million. That will occur in the year 2140. Morgan Stanley recently stated that, "Historically, most of bitcoin’s gains come directly after the halving. This bull-run period starts with the halving event and ends once the price of bitcoin hits its prior peak." We see if this pattern repeats again.
