🤔The flip side Those who are too young to remember the days of vinyl records, we'll explain the phrase, "the flip side". Back in the day before digital music, there was analog music and record stores selling the vinyl records (albums). In fact, The Gap was originally a record store that also sold jeans since teens and college kids loved that apparel. The vinyl records had different music on each side of the albums, Side A and Side B and the phase flip side was common parlance.
In the 21st Century, there is clearly a flip side to all the benefits and conveniences of technology everywhere in our lives. The vehicle you drive is collecting data on you, while at the same it offers you beneficial information about crash prevention, navigation, tire pressure, engine and oil needs, etc... Thankfully, we don't see many cars broken down on the side of the road.
The flip side of receiving terrific intel about our vehicles is pernicious. Not only is personal data being collected about all drivers, it is also being sold at a big profit to third parties. Auto makers are monetizing mobility data to the tune of hundreds of billions of US dollars according to a report by McKinley & Company.
✋Gov Newsom of California A new executive order was signed by Gov Gavin Newson of California last Wednesday. The Governor of the most populated state in the US wants extensive research to be done to identify how to govern and regulate generative artificial intelligent or GenAI. Here's what he said:
"This is a potentially transformative technology – comparable to the advent of the internet and we’re only scratching the surface of understanding what GenAI is capable of. We recognize both the potential benefits and risks these tools enable. We’re neither frozen by the fears nor hypnotized by the upside. We’re taking a clear-eyed, humble approach to this world-changing technology. Asking questions. Seeking answers from experts. Focused on shaping the future of ethical, transparent, and trustworthy AI. Doing what California always does – leading the world in technological progress.”
💸BYD is growing BYD is a Chinese-based EV manufacturer. Legendary investor, Warren Buffet and his investment firm, Berkshire Hathaway have been heavily investing in BYD since 2008. Those investments may have been key to making it the #2 EV company in the world, behind US-based, Tesla.
Yet BYD will be quick to add that they are much more than an EV company. BYD is also a major player in the global electronics industry, and started out selling electronic components under the name BYD Electronics (BE). In 2023 Berkshire Hathaway began selling its shares of BYD, creating liquidity. On August 27th, BYD bought US-based Jabil's mobile electronics manufacturing arm for $2.2 billion. Jabil is listed on the NYSE under the ticker JBL.
⚠️Google's warning If you are fond of using Google's gmail (you have other choices), the tech giant has warned that the preponderance of malicious account hacking is causing Google to add more security measures.
You can expect a message from the app for a second and trusted security factor to be completed before you can continue using the app. The correct response to this verification challenge is required. An incorrect reply may lock you out of gmail on all your devices, so be prepared!
☝️Tip to speed up your iPhone Clear your cache. Do you know what that is? Cache is part of a computer's architecture that helps it remember passwords and website data to make moving through the system quicker. After time, the data is collected becomes cluttered and outdated with too many bits of information, making it slow down.
Remember that when you clear your cache, all those shortcuts to passwords and sites will be deleted and you need to be prepared to have all your log in passwords handy as you will be require to enter them again after you have cleared the cache. It is recommended to clear your cache every other month for best practices.
If you use Safari browser - Go to Settings on your iPhone, select the Safari app and select Clear History and Data. If you use Chrome browser - Go to Settings on your iPhone, select Chrome app and select 3 dots and select Clear Browsing Data. Repeat this process if you are using other browsers such as Duck-Duck-Go, Firefox, or others.
