🎉Making gains Finally the US is making some much needed headway for using renewable energy sources. As reported by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), in the first half of 2023, the US generated 25% of its energy using renewable energy sources. The combination of wind and solar energy created over 17% output. While solar contributed just 5.8%, it made the greatest increase.
With a goal of 80% renewable energy sources for the US's total consumption by 2030; it's time to go full throttle.

🇳🇿News from New Zealand is good While the US is achieving a new milestone of 25% energy generation from renewable sources, New Zealand is hovering at 82% renewable energy output. Granted they are a much smaller country, but they are looking to scale to 100% by 2030.
Recently the country partnered with the world's largest institutional investment company, BlackRock from New York to help it meet this goal. In the agreement, BlackRock will offer a $1.2 billion fund to cover the country's investments in solar, wind, battery storage, and green hydrogen technologies and services. The newly elected President of New Zealand, Prime Minister Chris Hipkins plans to make this investment pay huge dividends:
“This is a game-changer for the clean-tech sector, and an example of the pragmatic and practical steps the government’s taking to accelerate climate action while actually growing our economy and creating jobs.” He added that the intellectual property New Zealand companies will discover and create will be financially profitable when sold to other countries around the world.
🇩🇪Cannabis in Germany Germany's cabinet recently voted in favor to legalized adult-use cannabis. It still needs to be approved by the Bundestag. In most of the EU, possession of small amounts of cannabis is not an offense for imprisonment, but more of a fine-based violation.
The goal in Germany is to allow government-regulated sales of cannabis for adults. First Germany will launch a pilot program to test the waters. The first phase will allow just a few licensed shops to sell cannabis products. After 5 years of collecting data, the government will revisit the issue with the intention to increase the number of licenses it will offer.
If passed by the Bundestag, Germans will be allowed to possess 50 grams monthly and will be permitted to grow 3 pants at home. Public consumption is not permitted in this legislation.
👓Let's see A modern eyewear concept is going strong. Akila is the brand that lovingly makes small, limited run quantities of eyewear using eco-friendly cellulose acetate and optical lenses with 100% UVA/UVB protection. They are designed in Los Angeles to last a lifetime.
When protecting the windows to your soul, have a look at Akila; they believe in sustainability, planet activism and are sold all over the world. They offer 10% off your first purchase.
🥝Healthy food prescription in California A program that offers healthy food instead of a prescription is taking off. Food is medicine is a movement with advocates across the US, but is having the strongest foothold in California. The plan is to make citizens more healthy and happy, and to also lower costs of national and state run healthcare programs such as MediCare, MediCal and MediCaid.
The first program began in 2016 in San Francisco. It was a "food pharmacy" program. Now all 58 counties in the golden state offer 2-14 such food prescription programs. In an effort to bring produce to primary care, medically tailored foods aim to help those with diabetes, hypertension, high blood pressure, obesity, food insecurity and other chronic diseases. The program offers fresh produce on a regular basis, recipes and live cooking classes.
