🎉National Drive Electric Week This is the thirteenth year of celebrating the benefits of driving EVs and hybrid vehicles, those ranging from motorcycles to trucks and more. It's a free, fun and interesting event where attendees can chop it up with EV and hybrid owners to get honest answers to all those questions. These pioneers of this nascent industry are friendly and helpful.
The week runs this year from September 22 through October 1. Tap this link from the Drive Electric website to find the closest events near your zip code.
🔋EV battery costs dip With the projections for global demand of lithium batteries poised to increase well over 200% from 2025 to 2030, oddly there has been a decline in prices in 2023. In August alone the price for energy storage and EVs declined 10 percent. Since the battery is the largest cost of EVs, it is fair to assume that this will help lower the cost of all EVs. Besides EVs, lithium is used in electronics, appliances, medical and military systems and much more.
When Toyota and South Korean battery manufacturer, SK On, complete their solid state lithium batteries, the EV industry will change dramatically. Each asserts they will be ready to launch their revolutionary batteries sometime between 2025 and 2028. The solid state batteries will offer greater drive range and will last longer than current lithium batteries. Toyota hints that it will be available in their hybrid Prius in 2025.

🛻Tesla Cybertruck We have been waiting since 2019 for more about Tesla's Cybertruck. Well, CEO Elon Musk leaked that he test drove a "performance" version last week and reported that it "kicked ass." We understand that it will not go into mass production until 2024, and that it will come in different versions with one to four motors. The tri-motor version, with a top speed of 130 mph, is scheduled to have a $70K starting price. The single motor is projected to start at $40K.
This YouTube video with Elon Musk and Jay Leno from 2021 is both entertaining and informative.
🚖Waymo robotaxis in Los Angeles Waymo is an autonomous driving taxi company. It is also Google's self-driving taxi project and AGREEN1 provided coverage in the December 19, 2022 and the July 28, 2023 issues respectively for Phoenix and San Francisco markets.
According The Verge, Waymo is doing a "six week tour stop" for the LA market. The tour is as follows: Santa Monica and Venice Beach October 11-November 18; Century City November 20-December 17; West Hollywood December 17-January 7; Mid City January 8-23; Koreatown January 24-February 8; and Downtown LA February 9-March 3.
Two weeks ago, the Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit against Google. The U.S. Federal Government asserts that Google intentionally and illegally prevented competition of its search engine, denying innovation and preventing users a real choice. Does it look like the same could apply in this new industry?
👟College athletes and cannabis rules Last week the NCAA committee, which is the National Collegiate Athletic Association officially requested that legislation be passed to remove cannabis from the banned substances list for college athletes. The committee explained that the existing policy of testing and penalizing in the belief that cannabis is a performance enhancing drug is entirely false.
The committee chair, James Houle made this comment in a press release on September 22: "We are recommending a big shift in the paradigm when it comes to cannabinoids. We want to modernize the strategy with the most up-to-date research to give schools the best opportunity to support the health of student-athletes.”
Stay Curious... Who are we?
Fun question of the day:
Is adult-use cannabis legal in your state or country?
Who are we?
Do you speak up about climate change problems?
25% of respondents said YES
