🏆First 100% solar-powered town never lost power during Hurricane Ian Much of southwest Florida and neighboring areas were complete disasters after the wind storm damaged thousands of buildings in the region and cut off power to more than 2.6 million people. Babcock Ranch, the nation's first sustainable town and only 12 miles from Fort Myers, never lost power. The forward-leaning town was designed to be climate-resilient and is powered by renewable energy.
As a result, Babcock Ranch only saw minimal damage to a few buildings and recorded no deaths. The town’s nearly 700,000 individual solar panels withstood Hurricane Ian and kept lights on in its 2,000 homes while the wind storm sent other parts of Florida into darkness. Ian tested the town’s climate resiliency and showed proof that renewable energy can help the country evade the devastating effects of climate change.

👍Hertz and BP leaning forward Hertz is on a long-term mission to accelerate EV adoption. The Florida-based car-rental company agreed to buy over 340,000 EVs from Tesla, General Motors and Polestar by 2027, and an additional 127,000 from GM recently. In order to charge all their EVs, it signed a partnership with BP Pulse, the EV charging unit of Beyond Petroleum (formally British Petroleum), to install thousands of EV chargers nationwide.
Hertz expects to have up to 3,000 EV chargers installed at its 500 locations across the U.S. by the end of 2023, and some will be made available for public use. The deal also brings BP closer to its goal of installing over 100,000 EV chargers in the U.S. by 2030. Maybe it's time to rent an EV at Hertz now.

🌍What good is money if it cannot help others and the earth? Yvon Chouinard, founder of California-based Patagonia is now retiring after almost 50 years of stewardship. He has chosen to give away the $3 billion outdoor apparel company for free to help save the earth.
It is extraordinary. Most entrepreneurs do not put the earth or climate change as their most important concern. In a statement on Patagonia’s website, Chouinard explained that he did not want to sell his company because he wanted to preserve its values and keep the people working for Patagonia around the world employed. Under a specially designed trust and a nonprofit organization, Chouinard’s apparel company will continue supporting actions on climate and the environment. How's that for an encore?
